Barenaked Ladies Show #4

Thursday, January 18th

Thursday was our last day at sea, and we knew that in the morning, we'd be back in Port Everglades, and have to go home. So, we made sure to get our various souvenirs, then relaxed up by the pool for most of the afternoon, watching Jason Plumb perform (Ed joined him for a song or two), then Guster again. Once again, between the regular show and the encore, the crowd started booing, and Ryan came out flipping the bird. He said that people who had not been to the previous night's show were probably wondering what the hell was going on!

We'd heard that people had started lining up at for that evening's BNL show at 11:30 am, but we were on vacation, WITH the band, so we decided we would enjoy our day, and not sit in some crazy line, indoors, for the whole day. After our afternoon poolside -- watching the water slosh like crazy, because it was a choppy, rolly, watch your balance kind of day (apparently very unusual) -- we headed back to our room to change for dinner. We were ready early, so we walked around a little, then watched Jason Plumb for a bit, again, playing on the stage behind the bar in the lobby. Ed was there watching, but we left him alone. I could have easily approached him, as other people were, but decided not to. We went to Truffles alone, and were seated with two other random couples -- one of which was from the Rochester area! How funny!

After dinner, we finally got in line for the show, which actually ended right at the entrance to the dining room, winding its way through Rodeo Drive (the shops), and the Casino. We chose a seat in the last row of the balcony (we wanted the front, but they were reserved, and everything between was taken), and actually enjoyed sitting for the BNL show after a long week of standing in line and for various shows. We were wiped out.

The show was great! Andy came out and played some songs (Box Set, Jane), and came out later to play congas for Brian Wilson, which was amazing! We got some pretty good pictures, considering where we were. Then, just like Guster the previous two shows, the crowd started booing after the regular show, and chanting "BNL sucks!" it was hysterical! When they came back out, Ed said, "That's one more thing we've stolen from Guster!" As far as jokes go, this night was a little "blue" (you can search for the jokes on barenaked.net), which is probably not something they could do on a regular tour! But this crowd was the right crowd!

Steve and Ed.

Andy on piano, with Kev on accordion. Box Set, I think.
