Excursion Day - Grand Turk
Wednesday, January 17th
We spent late morning and early afternoon on Grand Turk. We booked the Gibb's Cay & Stingray Adventure excursion, which included a boat ride to uninhabited Gibb's Cay for snorkeling and feeding stingrays. We also got to watch the guy gut a conch, and we got to eat it! Tastes like scallops. We had a nice time, but if we were to go again, we'd probably just go snorkeling on our own at Governor's Beach, or take the bus into Cockburn town for sight-seeing and shopping. There wasn't much at the port except cheesy kiosks and Margaritaville. Tourist Hell.
The beach near the dock wasn't sand, it was rocky, hard coral... |
...and wasn't easy on the feet! |
But it had all sorts of old conch shells embedded in it. |
More embedded shells... |

Gutting a conch, which he dove for shortly before arriving at the island. |
Eating fresh, raw conch. |
I never caught his name, but he was a cool guy with a rockin' hat!

Sue in snorkel gear. NOT the most attractive accessory, I must say... |

A stingray John "chased" a bit. |
Some little fishy in the reef. |
More coral. |
A starfish. |
A washed-out digital picture of a stingray. It was SO sunny on Grand Turk, most of our pictures were washed out. |
John and I posing with the giant Parrot of Margaritaville. Did I mention it was tourist hell? |
