Excursion Day - Grand Turk

Wednesday, January 17th

We spent late morning and early afternoon on Grand Turk. We booked the Gibb's Cay & Stingray Adventure excursion, which included a boat ride to uninhabited Gibb's Cay for snorkeling and feeding stingrays. We also got to watch the guy gut a conch, and we got to eat it! Tastes like scallops. We had a nice time, but if we were to go again, we'd probably just go snorkeling on our own at Governor's Beach, or take the bus into Cockburn town for sight-seeing and shopping. There wasn't much at the port except cheesy kiosks and Margaritaville. Tourist Hell.

The beach near the dock wasn't sand, it was rocky, hard coral...

...and wasn't easy on the feet!

But it had all sorts of old conch shells embedded in it.

More embedded shells...

Gutting a conch, which he dove for shortly before arriving at the island.

Eating fresh, raw conch.
Note the 7-person "Rum & Reggae Beach Party" behind me.
Wow, some impressive party. LOL!

I never caught his name, but he was a cool guy with a rockin' hat!

John in snorkel gear.

Sue in snorkel gear. NOT the most attractive accessory, I must say...

Pictures from our underwater camera, enhanced by Photoshop.

A stingray John "chased" a bit.

Some little fishy in the reef.

More coral.

A starfish.

A washed-out digital picture of a stingray. It was SO sunny on Grand Turk, most of our pictures were washed out.

John and I posing with the giant Parrot of Margaritaville. Did I mention it was tourist hell?
